Chances are you’re doing very well in your business despite the weak economy.
Do you find it hard to enjoy your good fortune while so many are getting hit financially or apprehensive about their business future?
Most people do.
A friend told me that she’s doing very well at work. Making more money this year than she ever has. But the other people at her office are having a tough time.
And this makes her feel “bad”.
If you’re like her, you need to be very careful.
As an Entrepreneur and Executive You Must Feel Happy For Your Success
In the book “The New Psycho-Cybernetics”, the author Dr. Maxwell Maltz writes, “Happiness is not something that is earned or deserved. Happiness is not a moral issue, anymore than the circulation of the blood is a moral issue…. If you wait until you ‘deserve’ to think pleasant thoughts, you are likely to think unpleasant thoughts concerning your own unworthiness…”
Don’t throw a wrench in your good fortune.
It’s not true. Not everyone is taking a beating in this economy. Some people, many people, are actually doing better now than they have in the past. Probably even you.
Her guilt is understandable, even though it is unfounded.
It’s natural, and healthy, to have empathy for others. And that’s what she is really feeling.
The danger is that she misrepresents her empathy and caring for guilt. The danger for you is to let others’ ill times cast a heavy shadow on your thinking and action.
It’s not your fault. You have nothing to feel guilty about.
If you’re having a good time, if you’re happy, don’t snuff it because you’re worried about how others might react.
You’re successful and being rewarded for your work. Enjoy it. You deserve to be happy and proud about it. In fact, according to Dr. Maltz you need NO reason to feel and be happy, it’s as natural and necessary as blood circulation.
The Real Danger
She tries not to show how much she enjoys her work and being at the office. She even holds back her tendency to be cheerful at work. She doesn’t want to make the others feel worse.
If you do a similar thing, the danger is that you do such a good job acting miserable like everyone else… that it comes true.
Happiness is vital in marketing, advertising, and business.
